Meet Dr. Joshua Hillmann, Pianist
Dr. Joshua Hillmann is a pianist, singer, and educator whose performances reflect a deep commitment to musical expression, technical brilliance, and collaborative artistry. His career spans solo recitals, orchestral collaborations, and extensive work with vocal ensembles throughout the United States and internationally.
An avid collaborative artist, Dr. Hillmann has performed with numerous acclaimed ensembles, including the Grammy-winning Phoenix Chorale and the Grammy-nominated True Concord Voices & Orchestra. His performance experience includes appearances with the Kansas City Chorale in South Korea, with Anúna in China, and with Canto Vivo in Italy, Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic, as well as featured performances in a seven-year Beethoven Sonata Concert Series at Dove of Peace Lutheran Church in Tucson. Currently, he serves as principal pianist at Paradise Valley United Methodist Church.
Dr. Hillmann's artistic development has been shaped by work with distinguished musicians including Jeremy Denk, the Brentano String Quartet, and Anne Schein. His competitive achievements include being named "Most Outstanding Arizona Pianist" at the Bösendorfer USASU International Piano Competition and first prize at the PIANOvision Most Wanted Piano Competition. He has appeared as soloist with the Arizona State University Sinfonietta, performing Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto.
In addition to his performance career, Dr. Hillmann teaches piano at Grand Canyon University and maintains a private studio. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music in Piano Performance from Arizona State University, where he studied with Dr. Baruch Meir, and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Kansas under Dr. Jack Winerock. His early training at the St. Louis Symphony Music School with Jane Allen established the foundation for his musical life.
Dr. Hillmann is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music and member of the Music Teachers National Association, the Arizona Music Teachers Association, and the Phoenix Music Teachers Association.
